PAINTED OR DIP TREATED?

If you’re unsure whether to choose a dip-treated or painted finish for your summerhouse, this page is here to help. We’ll take you through the benefits of both options, including the differences in appearance, protection and maintenance, so you can make an informed choice and select the finish that best suits your summerhouse, garden and personal style.

Our dip-treated buildings offer excellent protection while maintaining the natural beauty of the timber. The wood is immersed in preservative to provide consistent coverage, helping protect against rot, decay, moisture and insect attack. It’s a practical, low-maintenance choice for anyone looking for a traditional-looking shed with long-lasting protection.

Although dip treatment provides your shed with an initial level of protection against moisture, rot, decay and insect attack, regular maintenance is essential to keep the timber protected and looking its best.

We recommend re-treating your shed every few months, depending on weather conditions and exposure, using a suitable wood preservative. Regular treatment will help maintain the timber’s durability and ensure it continues to receive the protection it needs against the British weather.

Keeping up with regular treatment is an important part of looking after your shed and can help extend the life of the timber for many years to come.

FACTORY PAINTED

For a more premium and personalised finish, our sheds can be factory painted using Teknos paint. Teknos provides a beautiful, durable finish that helps protect the timber against the elements, including moisture, UV exposure and weathering. It’s an excellent choice if you want your shed to complement your home and garden, rather than simply having the traditional natural timber appearance.

A painted finish also gives you the freedom to choose a colour that suits your style, whether you prefer something subtle and natural or a bolder statement colour. Depending on the specific coating system and application, Teknos exterior coatings can offer long-lasting protection, with certain systems providing coating warranties of around 10–12 years.

One of the key benefits of a Teknos painted finish is that it requires less regular maintenance than a dip-treated finish. Keeping the surface clean is simple,  in most cases, warm soapy water and a gentle clean is all that is needed to remove everyday dirt and keep your shed looking its best. The durable coating provides an additional protective layer over the timber, helping to maintain its appearance and protect it from the effects of the weather.

With the correct care and maintenance, a Teknos finish can keep your shed looking fantastic while providing long-lasting protection for the timber.
